Russia to include environmental protection on the BRICS agenda

Russia will suggest that the upcoming April BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting consider creating a public-private environmental partnership platform and introducing green technologies. Simultaneously, the question is being considered of whether the BRICS New Development Bank is capable of evolving a financial mechanism for investment in green technologies and relevant environmental projects in BRICS countries.

In addition, the meeting is likely to put forward the idea of establishing a permanent working group on environmental cooperation priorities at the level of directors of international departments. The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources has drafted a final document of the ministerial meeting, reflecting the main environmental policies of importance for all BRICS countries.

Currently, a draft BRICS Economic Cooperation Strategy prioritising support for sustainable development, inclusive growth and green economy is being coordinated.
