VII BRICS Academic Forum

Addressing the closing session of the VII BRICS Academic Forum "BRICS: cooperation for growth, security and prosperity" on 23 May, the Chairman of the Board of the Russian National Committee on BRICS Research (RNCR) Vyacheslav Nikonov, presented an analytical report, "On the way towards a long-term BRICS strategy."

"BRICS represents a new future. We are not seeking domination, we are seeking progress. BRICS is not a military bloc but an association that seeks to make the life of 44% of the world's population better," he said in his opening remarks.

The report presents the results of the discussions on a broad range of issues, which were conducted by experts from the five countries. The expert community has several scenarios for BRICS evolution over the next 25 years - optimistic, realistic and pessimistic. The authors of the report believe that much will depend on how BRICS positions itself in the global economy.

The experts note that the BRICS will have to address both external and internal agendas, most importantly the development of economic cooperation and trade and the promotion of investment. The humanitarian issues - cooperation in education, BRICS international university rankings, cultural exchanges, Internet governance cooperation, and a number of other items - are of fundamental importance as well.

The expert community's research-backed forecasts will be presented to BRICS leaders at the Ufa Summit in July 2015.
