On 22 April BRICS environment ministers will discuss green economy initiative

The first official BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting on a green economy strategy for the BRICS countries' sustainability and competitiveness will be held in Moscow on 22 April to advance cooperation among the countries' environmental protection agencies.

The meeting should result in the creation of a working group for BRICS interaction on environmental issues and a platform for public-private partnerships in developing and promoting green technologies.

The meeting will be attended by Achim Steiner, UNEP Executive Director and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Consultations of BRICS experts on environmental issues will be held on 21 April, ahead of the ministerial meeting.
